Triple AAA devs like the ones who made diablo 4 are saying we shouldn’t expect high quality like Baldurs gate 3 because it’s an anomaly
Do you agree with this?

I agree with it in a sense that it won't become the norm. Studios make due with what they have, and every subsequent game in a genre isn't the new best game in the genre.
That said. If he situations that result in the game being apparently so much better than every other game, maybe try and emulate the situations and we'll get more incredible games more often.- Anonymous

AAA RPGs have longer development times and already established engines (Dragon Age , Elder Scrolls , etc).

>I legit don't understand where you think the difference is
Part of it is that BG3 has already paid for itself and then some before even coming out, with at least some of that extra cash going to not just more development, but allowing the devs to just do what they wanted, since they've already got the money for it. Larian's Early Access scheme for game releases can help alleviate pressure on developers, since the extra cash lets them increase their studio personnel to meet the issues they have in development more easily, and they have to worry less about the project not making any money.
That is the major difference between Larian's recent games and other developers. It also has helped a lot that this is the game Larian's been wanting to make since the first Divinity Original Sin game at least.- Anonymous

Also that they actually worked very closely with the early access community when making the game. They basically just did things the right way, which required more time and work, but it’s going to pay off in the end. Everyone else just wants to shortcut to the end and fix it after launch at best.

the difference is Larian hangs onto developers and treats them well instead of crunching them to death and making them burn out of the industry

The problem is exactly that, they don't want to deliver quality.
They want to take 5+ years to make one big Game as a Service that is always online, P2W, filled with lootboxes and microtransactions, while also being so bland and generic that it can try to appeal to every person in the planet.- Anonymous

That is because inovation is the same as risk in the executives eyes, so game developers are only allowed to do things that are proven to work. This is why most big game are shooters with a battle pass and a battle royale mode.

I dunno, Diablo 4's first season where sometimes you get to do a wave defense so you can get more gems to fill up your stash is pretty epic
I mean think of how many nightmare dungeons you can run which can get you 825 item power items which are literally the same as 725 item power itemsI mean you can get to level 50 in diablo, an "MMO" with zero ability to group with random people to do anything even though the previous game let you switch between matchmaking and private simply by toggling a drop down..
But those are the kind of unrealistic expectations Larian is setting. God damn them,- Anonymous

Don’t forget that in season 1 your entire progression is the battlepass which just makes you look cooler while you grind dungeons to fill the battlepass so you can look cooler while you grind dungeons to fill the battlepass so you can look cooler while you grind dungeons to fill the battlepass…..

I don't appreciate the idea that BG3 is somehow guaranteed to be the be-all-end-all of RPGs. Like what if the final product ends up being a 7/10? Are all RPG developers going to throw up their hands and say "well I guess you have to expect all RPGs from now on to be 6/10 at best?"

Compare this to devs creaming their pants over BotW. You see how this works? Treating an asset flip with the same map as the second coming of Christ so they themselves can get away with a lazy product. When a studio shows initiative and enthusiasm, that is to be discouraged.

they've realized that Larian's method of actually treating their developers well and building up a strong team of experienced devs who work well together actually pays off, and they want to keep treating their devs like disposable cogs that churn out one game then go into non-vidya software development.

I guess I'll try my luck in this thread.
So I have very minimal knowledge of dnd and I want to build a hybrid mage/warrior character. In Pathfinder kangmaker it was actually possible thanks to magus. But from what I can tell magus doesn't exist in bg3. So like am I forced into being pure melee/caster? Don't say sh*t like "just take 6 fighter 6 wizard dyd" I actually want a strong character.

Paladin is the closest thing to an actual spellsword in 5E, but you could also go Swords Bard or Eldritch Knight Fighter. Or use the mod that adds in Bladesinging Wizard

Always end up passing on Paladin because I don't think I can keep my vows throughout the game. Is oathbreaker actually a viable option or just a meme?
Eldritch Knight
Eldritch Knight works just fine.
Arguably the strongest fighter, despite everyone only paying attention to Battle Master.
You'll only be disappointed if you're expecting something like BG2 fighter/mage.This is embarrassing because I didn't even bother checking fighter subclasses thinking all of them would be melee. So Eldritch Knight seems like what I was looking for. Why is no one talking about this though?
So you can wear armor, throw fireballs and hit with swords? What is the catch?

Only so many points to spread, and you need STR, DEX, and CON right? But yeah if you stick to spells with no modifier you can mitigate that. Spellcasting is also tough in the middle of melee right? Of course War Caster is godly for this. - Anonymous

The catch is you only get one third of the wizard spell progression and take much longer to learn new spells.

Now that i think about it, Eldritch Knight at max level (12) stops just before learning 3rd level spells, which is unfortunate.

Female. Narrator.
The people in charge of the writing thought it was a good idea to have a female, a woman, try to narrate an ostensibly serious story. That should tell you everything you need to know about the quality of the writing.

No, it's not just the jokes. Even the serious parts were rough to try and get through. More over, the contrast between the humor and serious parts were incredibly jarring. You can add levity to a serious story, but it works better in a game like Fallout where it uses a lot of dark humor. A lot of the jokes in DOS2 were like awful internet jokes.

I truly don't get what your problem is, so maybe you can explain it better. I mean, I had my own problems with DOS2's writing:
>too easy to get hooked into a gay relationship
>too many edgy scenes
>atheist GODS AREN'T REAL bullsh*t
>companions don't interact
But the flippancy you guys are complaining about . . . I just don't see it at all.
